« Bocce: The Sport of Gentlemen »
Bocce is a competitive game of skill played by men. Young and old men alike can compete in a fierce battle. It sharpens the reflexes and confidence– and stimulates good fellowship among macho men. We here at Mas Macho are very big fans of this "Sport of Gentlemen".
According to the United States Bocce Federation, the purpose of the game is to roll the bocce, a 4½ inch ball weighing about three pounds, as close as possible to the pallino, a 1¾ inch ball which is rolled down the alley first. The bocce coming closest to the pallino scores. Twelve points constitute a game.
"To me bocce is a robust experience, kind of like making a pizza, " explains George Bocca, Mas Macho Board Member and Chair of Food Committee. "Bocce gives me a chance to contemplate my machoness and to share with my manly peers."
In most metropolitan areas you can find a good booce court and strong congregation of men professing their skills and demonstrating their machoness. They may even play a game of bocce while you are there. Here is a list of NYC bocce courts.
