Sick Dog Needs Viagra to Stay Alive
A pit bull which has been diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition now needs to take two Viagra pills per day just to stay alive.
Vets say 6-year-old Ingrid -- who was taken in by an animal rescue center after being neglected by her previous owners -- suffers from heartworms. This means the pill-popping pooch requires two daily 50-mg Viagras to boost blood flow and prevent heart failure. And before you ask, no, it doesn't impact her libido.
But caregivers say that after two years, they are running out of the little blue pill, which isn't covered by animal insurance, and are asking for men to donate any of the pills they are not taking. Staff at Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in New York say they've received some anonymous letters with pills enclosed, but they still need more to help Ingrid.
The donations aren't all selfless acts. One woman sent the rescue center her husband's entire Viagra stash after suspecting he was using them to have an extramarital affair.
"She was happy to be giving it to Ingrid," said a spokesperson for Little Shelter. "As long as her husband wasn't getting it, she was happy."
